Mission

    The mission of the Physical Education Program is to provide a comprehensive, progressive and articulated physical education program through quality and research. Our students will attain the knowledge and skills to be physically active and healthy for life in the 21st century.

Vision

    All students will be physically active and educated, having acquired motor skills to perform a variety of physical activities, physical fitness knowledge, and intrinsic motivation to pursue a healthy and active lifestyle.

Belief Statements
  • Daily physical activity and health literacy are essential to the whole student.
  • Each student has differing abilities and aptitudes for learning motor skills. The rate and style at which motor skills are mastered also differ among students and within each student from time to time.
  • In the value of fitness practices to increase lifetime activity and reduce sedentary behaviours.
  • That by integrating physical fitness into the broad range of activities that students enjoy, a bond is established between gaining and maintaining fitness and having fun while playing alone or with others.
  • That less emphasis should be put upon competition in physical education activities and more emphasis on personal best and improvement.
  • That all students can improve their health thereby enhancing their ability to learn and be successful in college.
  • That physical activity provides the opportunity for enjoyment, challenge, self-expression, and social interaction.
  • That assessment must be continuous and is a vital part of the physical education program.
  • A variety of evaluative techniques should be used for determining individual differences and needs of students.
  • Highly qualified teachers will deliver an aligned curriculum of best practices to all students.
  • Physical Education teachers require content specific staff development and opportunities for collaboration.
  • Parents and community members are vital components for the success of the program.

Activities of the academic year 2018-2019
    Physical Education is aimed at allowing students to experience a wide range of physical activities so that they can make informed choices about a healthy life style and the pursuit of recreational and competition sports.

  • Manonmaniam Sundaranar University Inter Collegiate Volleyball Tournament was held in our campus from 09-11-2018 to 11-11-2018. Our college Annual Sports Meet for the year 2018-2019 was held on 27-02-2019. Dr. Isac, Deputy Director, Sports Authority of India, Kerala was the chief guest.
  • Dr. M. Hepziba Jeni, Director of Physical Education has been nominated as a member of the Selection Committee for Manonmaniam Sundaranar University Kho-kho, Volleyball, Badminton and Ball Badminton teams for the year 2018-2019.
  • M. Jeya Benisha Susan, I B.A. History have been selected to represent Manonmaniam Sundaranar University team and participated in Tamil Nadu Inter University Athletics competition.
  • M. Jeya Benisha Susan secured 3rd Place in 100 m Run, 3rd place in 200 m Run and 1st Place in 4 x 100 m relay in 33rd Junior State meet held at Chennai.
  • M. Jeya Benisha Susan participated in the 34th National Junior Athletics Championship organised by Jarkand Athletics Association at Ranchi from 2nd to 5th November 2018.
  • J. Jesu Jerlin, I M.A. History and V. Jerlin, II B.A. English participated in the state level Chief Minister trophy held at Jawaharlal Stadium, Chennai.
  • Our college organized a coaching camp for our University Women Basketball Team from 30th October 2018 to 02nd November 2018.
  • P. Ragavi, II B.A. History, A. Subitha, II B.Sc. Computer Science, R. Jenisha, I B.A. Tamil and T. L. Thanika, I B.Sc. Computer Science participated in the State Level 34rd Junior Kho-Kho Championship for Girls 2019.
  • B. Akshaya, II M.A. English and T.V. Aswini, III B.Sc., Computer Science participated in the State Level Ball Badminton Championship for Girls 2019.
  • Dr. M. Hepsiba Jeni, Director of Physical Education was nominated as Team Manager for the Manonmaniam Sundaranar University Badminton Women Team for the South Zone Inter University Badminton Championship held at Vellore Institute of Technology, Vellore from 04th December 2018 to 08th December 2018.
  • Dr. M. Hepsiba Jeni, Director of Physical Education was nominated as Team Manager for the Manonmaniam Sundaranar University Basketball Women Team for the Tamil Nadu Inter University Championship held at Noorul Islam University, Kanyakumari from 20-09-2018 to 22- 09- 2018.
  • T.V. Aswini, S. Sheeja, B. Akshaya of our college participated in the senior state Ball Badminton Championships for Women in the year 2018-2019.
  • The following students of our college participated and secured prizes in MUTA Athletics Meet – 2018 held at VOC College, Thoothukudi.
