About Library
Central Library
Library is the “Heart” of the institution. Teaching and learning system are supported by library through the supply of reading material. Our library is well equipped with reference books, text books, research materials, journals, periodicals, and newspapers etc. Library building is situated near the main building of the institution. The total area of the library is 6200 sq.ft. Every year the Librarian gives orientation to all the first year degree students on how to use the Encyclopedias, Dictionaries, services provided by the Library etc.
Newspaper clippings / cuttings on Higher Education, Foreign scholarships, Appointments, etc., are put up in the Library Notice Board for students reference.For efficient administration and function of the Library, the Library Committee is constituted with some senior staff members and representation is also given to the students.Student volunteers are employed on Part – Time basis to assist the Librarian in the activities of the Library.
Library is fully automated with all its subsystems like LAN connectivity and Wi-Fi. Library Management Software system is incorporated with latest technologies that enables Library to serve its users more efficiently. Specialized service provided by the Library includes INFLIBNET, DELNET, Braille and AUTOLIB.

Rules & Regulations
- The library is open to all the students and the members of the staff of the college.
- The library is open from 9.00 A.M. to 5.00 P.M. on all days except Government holidays.
- Staff and Students must sign in the Gate Register.
- Students must wear ID card. Those who fail to wear the ID card should pay Rs.10/- as fine.
- Strict silence is to be maintained in the library.
- Each student will be given two library tickets and two books will be issued at a time.
- Books borrowed should be returned in ten and fifteen days failing which a fine of 1 Rs/- per book per day will be collected.
- On receiving a book, the student must examine and report to the librarian any damage that is found. If she fails to do so, she will be held responsible for any damage and may be asked to pay the cost of the book.
- Each student is responsible for the books borrowed by her. For any damage or loss of book, its cost will be collected.
- If a book is lost, the borrower is to inform the librarian immediately to avoid overdue fine.
- Students are prohibited from bringing into the library personal books, umbrellas, boxes and other personal belongings when they enter the library.
- The text books are available to poor deserving students for a semester from the Book Bank on payment of a nominal fee of Rs.10/- per semester. For this, an application duly signed by the Head of the Department should be submitted to the librarian.
- Books borrowed during the odd semester holidays should be returned within 3 days after the reopening of the college.
- Reference books will not be issued during the lunch break.
- Reprographic section serves the users with photocopying facilities.
- Computers with internet access for academic browsing are available in the library.
- Browsing can be done only during lunch break and after college hours.
- The library committee consisting of the librarian and some members of the faculty meets at intervals to consider problems pertaining to the library and gives suggestions for the improvement of library facilities. Any complaint or suggestion regarding the library may be dropped in the suggestion box kept in the library which will be attended to by the committee.
- The facilities in the audio-visual room may be used by the students and staff during class hours or leisure hours. Students must be accompanied by a staff member.

Activities of the academic year 2020-2021
The Central Library of Women’s Christian College, Nagercoil organized a “National Level E-Quiz on Research Ethics” for Faculty members, Research scholars and Students dated from 15/06/2020 to 22/06/2020. 797 participants across the nation attended the quiz. and e-certificates were issued to all the participants.

A National Webinar on A JOURNEY THROUGH REVIEW OF LITERATURE was conducted on 26th August 2020 in association with XCELERATING MINDS, BSE-IPF,Mumbai and Cape Forum – You Trust. Dr. S. Muthulakshmi. Assistant Professor of Commerce, V.H.N.S.N. College (Autonomous), Virudhunagar was the Resource Person.
Activities of the academic year 2019-2020
This academic year 2019-2020 started with the orientation programme to the Ist year UG students. The students were informed of the library rules and regulations. Training were given on how to use the various sections of the Library, to use internet, to borrow books, book issue timings and other information.
A demonstration programme of Online Service, INFLIBNET N-list (to download articles from National and International Journals) was conducted for all the first year PG, M.Phil students including Ph.D Research Scholars. We also taught the students about the library maintenance on how to handle the library books during the library hours.
Special prizes were given to the students who used the maximum number of books during the College Annual Day Celebration Miss Jafna Nihar Y of II B.A Tamil & Miss. Afra M II M.Sc. Botany was selected for the Best User Library Award (BULA) in the year 2019 – 2020.

Special prizes were given to the students who used the maximum number of books during the College Annual Day Celebration. Miss N. Vairam of III B.Sc Maths (R) & Miss V.S.Shilpi II M.Sc. Chemistry (S.F) was selected for the Best User Library Award (BULA) in the year 2018 – 2019.

The Library week was celebrated from 18/02/2019 to 21/02/2019. A State Level Workshop was conducted on 21/02/2019 on the topic “Scientific Writing for Research Publication”. Dr. M. Suralinidhi, Bharathidasan University, Tiruchirapalli was the Resource Person.
Activities of the academic year 2017-2018
A demonstration programme on INFLIBNET and DELNET was provided to Staff members, Research Scholars and Post graduate students. Wireless Fidelity (Wi-Fi) connection was also made available from 2017 onwards. Four new computers with internet access were added to the Network Research section.
Special prizes were given to the students who used the maximum number of books during the College Annual Day Celebration. Miss T. Viji Gowsaliya of III B.A Tamil & Miss I.JENEFA II M.Sc Maths (S.F) was selected for the Best User Library Award (BULA) in the year 2017 – 2018.

INFLIBNET NList :- An Initiative of Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD). This project is administered by INFLIBNET under the NME-ICT now funded by UGC, as college component under e-Shodh Sindhu Consortium. The NList of INFLIBNET online E-resources is available through username and password and can be accessed anywhere in the world. Our college is an institution member and have subscribed to the NList services for the benefit of staff, Research scholars and Students.
