History of the Department
The Department of Mathematics was established in the year 2003. In the first year the Department of Mathematics (DOM for short) taught 40 students. The number of students grew in leaps and bounds year after year and now after its existence of over a decade the DOM has to its credit to have taught during the last 5 academic years over 500 students. Beginning with a modest strength of one member in its first year of inception the DOM has grown in strength and now boasts of having eight (8) faculty members and all of them are pursuing their Ph.D degree too. The DOM is involved with teaching activities for UG/PG. Every year DOM used to visit an orphanage and offered foodand snacks for the poor and needy. The DOM has regularly conducted various competitions. The Department conducts courses on Engineering Mathematics, Discrete Mathematics, Graph Theory and Combinatorics, Numerical methods, linear Algebra, operations Research and Analysis for UG and PG classes. Weak students are identified and special classes are conducted for them to enable them to perform well. As a result of the sincere effort of the DOM team, the Department has been consistently obtaining excellent results, with many students scoring 100% in their mathematics paper.
Mathematics develops computational skills, critical thinking, and problem solving skills. The theory, discipline and techniques taught in mathematics courses are especially important in today's society. The faculty of the Department of Mathematics recognizes this and strives to ensure that the student learner obtains this knowledge. At the same time, the faculty contributes to the discipline by fundamental research in pure and applied mathematics, statistics and mathematics education.Department Mail Id: wccpgmaths@gmail.com
Vision
To produce good students who will attend to the mathematical skills of the community at large.
Mission
To assist students in acquiring a conceptual understanding of the nature and structure of mathematics, its processes and applications.
Objectives
1. Build and enhance computational skills necessary for today's society.
2. Develop the students' ability to critically interpret numerical and graphical data.
3. Develop and enhance the students' problem solving skills.
4. Encourage and reinforce the critical thinking skills of the students.
5. Develop the students' ability to intelligently communicate mathematical results in both written and oral format.
Highlights
1.Enhancing student learning in a personal environment.
2.Encourage students to participate in the learning experience through participation in student oriented seminars and other related activities.
3.Encourage both students and staff members of the department to undertake professional development opportunities that make educational excellence possible.
4.Value the contributions of the faculty to their discipline through publications, presentations and other methods of intellectual dissemination and strongly encourage their continued efforts in these endeavors.
