Women's Studies
  • The University Grants Commission has established a centre for “Women’s Studies” in our College. The objective of this study is to train young girls in the field of entrepreneurship and to create an awareness on gender issues and women’s rights.
  • This centre conducts Certificate, Diploma and Advanced Diploma Course on Women and Self Defence Demonstration in Karate.

Activities of the academic year 2018-2019
         The academic conclave of Women’s Studies Centre commenced with a Programme of “Digital Literacy and Online Safety Programme” which has been organised by the Natural commission for Women on 10-12-2018. Mr. Janice Varghese who is working with the Cyber Peace foundation is a Chief trainer and has highlighted the importance of a proper cyber hygiene strategy to protect the online presence and identities. Mrs. Revathy (DRO) of Kanyakumari District educated the gathering about digital literacy and provided awareness and its draw backs. She also advocated all possible help at her proximity. Dr. D. Rani Mila, Co-coordinator of Women’s Studies Centre welcomed the gathering. Dr. Glory Ratna Mary, Head, Department of Computer Science, graced the occasion with her presence. Dr. Grace Victoria offered her thank you note to all the participants.

         An Awareness Programme on “National Girl Child Day” was jointly organised by Women’s Studies Centre and Anti-eve teasing, Anti-harassment, Anti-ragging committee of Women’s Christian College, Nagercoil. The Programme was sponsored by Malabar Golds and Diamonds, Nagercoil. Dr. N. Sreenath, IPS, Superintendent of Police of Kanyakumari District was the Chief Guest. In his address to the students he assured full support from the Police Department on Women safety issues and urged to install and utilize Kavalan App in the mobile phones in case of any emergency. Principal of W.C.C., Dr. C.M. Padma in her presidential address emphasised that every girl child is a beautiful flower and not a thorn. The correspondent Dr. J. Asir Packia Singh and Vice Principal Dr. R. Rathiha felicitated the gathering. The meeting was coordinated by Dr. Esther, Director of Women’s Studies Centre and Mrs. Arice Mary, co-ordinator of Anti-eve teasing committee. At the end of the meeting, a human chain was organized by the students raising slogans regarding the importance of a girl child and the Problems faced by them in the society.

         In connection with the Women’s Day on 08-03-2019 Pencil Drawing and Elocution Competition were conducted on the theme “My favourite Indian Woman Leader” and “Women are the real architect of the Society”. Prizes were won by Jesmitha. E – I B. Com, I Prize, Aswathy. S – I M.Sc. Physics, II Prize and Jhonita. J – III B.Sc. Maths, III Prize respectively for the elocution competition. L.J. Aashika of III B.A. English and M. Sonia of III B.Sc. Computer Science won the I and II Prize respectively.
