ART, CULTURE AND HERITAGE CLUB

  • OBJECTIVES

  • To create awareness among the students regarding Art, Culture and heritage of our country and to motivate the younger generation to uphold cultural and traditional values.



  • ACTIVITIES

  • The club conducts various seminars and competition. Eminent speakers are invited to enable the students know about the values of culture and heritage.


    PERFORMANCE


    2015-2016

    The inauguration of the club for the year 2015-16 was held on 24.8.2015. Kalai Sudermoni A. Pazhaniapillai, folklorist and actor was the Chief Guest of the day. He gave a speech on the title “Naatupura Padalhal- Antrum Intrum”. A competition on Bow Song- Villu Paatu was conducted on 31Aug 2015 by the club to motivate young girls to revive traditional folk forms. This enabled the students to bring back the long forgotten Villu Paatu to the fore. Their performances were judged by eminent personalities in the field of folklore.


    Harvest festival of Tamilians, Pongal was celebrated on 14-01-2016. Pongal was distributed to the students as a part of upholding our culture.Kolattam competition was held on 21.12.2015.Students were encouraged to participate in the Kollattam competition.


    The members of Arts, Culture and Heritage Club took the interested students on an excursion to the heritage places of Kanyakumari district. The students were marvelled on the sight of the architecture and art of Udhayagiri fort and Padhmanathapuram palace of the Travancore.

    2014 – 2015

  • Inauguration of the club for the year 2014 – 15 was conducted on 12.09.2014. The chief guests Mr. S. Thomas, Chairman of Morwyt consultancy services and Dr. V. Jayshree, Asst. Prof., SRM University addressed the gathering.

  • A competition on traditional dances of India was conducted on 22.09.2014.

  • 2013 - 2014

  • A seminar on Nattupura Kalaikal was conducted on 05.09.2013. Dr. A.K. Perumal, former Principal of Arignar Anna College, Aralvaimozhi served as the resource person.

  • A competition on Folklore was conducted on 18.09.2013, and prizes were distributed to the winners.

  • The valedictory function for the activities of the year 2013 – 2014 was conducted on 13.03.2014. Rev. Dr. Vincent B. Wilson, National Director of “Thinai Organization”, gave an inspiring talk on the various folklores of Tamil Nadu.

  • Students from the club were taken on a trip to Vattakottai and Pechiparai dam.

  • The club organized a tour to Udayagiri Kottai, Kovalam & Veli.
