History of the Department
           The Department of Zoology began as an offshoot of biology and started functioning as a full fledged independent department in the year 1983 offering UG Zoology Degree course. Dr. R. Candidates seeking admission to B.Sc. Zoology should have passed the higher secondary Examination with Biology or Botany and Zoology as subjects.

M.Sc., M.Phil., Ph.D. (SLET)
Dr. C. Nija is working as Assistant Professor in the Department of Zoology. She has good academic excellence with University VII Rank in M.Sc and University I Rank in M.Phil. She has 6 publications in reputed journals and presented 8 scientific papers, attended 27 seminars and authored a book on Vermitechnology. Her area of interest is Aquatic Biology, specifically parasitology. She has been awarded with "Best paper presentation award" for the scientific paper in an International Seminar. She has 16 years of teaching experience, 11.9 yrs in Nesamony Memorial Christian College, and the rest of the period in this college.

Dr. K. Reeba Jasmine has eight years of teaching experience. Her area of specialization is Entomology.She has five publications in reputed journals.
Assistant Professor Assistant Professor Dr. G.J. Jenila,
M.Sc., M.Phil., Ph.D.
Jenila (33 yrs.) an environmentalbiologist who has specialized in animal ecosystem got her doctorate for the thesis "Hydro-biological characterization of selected aquatic habitat in Kanyakumari District, Tamilnadu" from the Manonmaniam Sundaranar University. She has Seven publications to her credit including few Elsevier publications with a total of 11.049 impact factor. A fellow of Indian Science Congress, she is in verge of becoming an International Resource person. She has presented in 7 international and 6 national conferences in South India. A gold medalist in her PG and silver medalist in UG course, both degrees were acquired from Nesamony Memorial Christian College, Marthandam under Manonmaniam Sundaranar University, Tirunelveli. She has done her Pre-doctoral course under Dr. Prasannakumar from Scott Christian College (Autonomous), Nagercoil and her Doctoral degree under Dr. C. Rathakrishnan Nair of St. Hindu College, Nagercoil. She has worked 2 yrs in Nesamony Memorial Christian College, Marthandam as Assistant Professor (Self-finance) from June 2015 to June 2017. Presently she is working as Assistant Professor of Zoology in Women′s Christian College, Nagercoil since June 2017.

Dr. Jasmine is working as Assistant Professor in the Department of Zoology. She has good academic excellence with University IX Rank in M.Sc. She has 8 publications in reputed journals and presented 2 scientific papers , attended 14 seminars. She has 1 year of teaching experience, in Nesamony Memorial Christian College, and the rest of the period in this college.
Awards
           Awards S. Nazima (1994), V.K. Pankaja Priya (1996), R. Viswambari Devi (2001) and R. Leena (2004) were the Gold Medalist of the Department. Activities Field trips to ecological important places, zoological parks and museums, Sericulture centre. Conduct certificate course on Bee-Keeping. Staff and students attend training programs in value added fish products and vermitechnology. Maintain Apiary and Vermicomposite unit. Students are given opportunities to take seminar from time to time and also to attend workshops, symposia, etc in related subjects organized in the college and elsewhere. Non-major subjects offered to other Departments are Bee keeping, pubpc health and hygiene. Offers University granted Add-on Job Oriented Certificate Course, Diploma and Advanced Diploma in Sericulture. Prize and Scholar ship Rani Jeyaskharan Scholarship – the students of Zoology Major who secures the highest marks in Part III subject in the first five semester examination. J.S. Chandra Sen Merit Prize – the best Students in I year and II year Zoology. Dr. Lily Premila Justin Karuthu Endowment – the Zoology major student who gets the highest mark in the University examination of all the six semesters..
