History of the Department
           Realising the importance of Commerce and industry in the economic, social, political and cultural spheres of human endeavour and activity, the Women’s Christian College accorded prime place of prominence for Commerce studies in 1977. Besides opening up vistas of opportunities for hundreds of students, our Department has always maintained high standards of academic excellence.There are Chartered Accountants, highly placed company executives, more than 70 lecturers and successful women entrepreneurs as the Alumni of this Department.

Dr.Chithra is teaching in Women′s Christian College since 1992.Her area of interest is Income Tax, Accountancy and computer related papers . She has a specialized interest in doing research work in Consumer Behaviour. She has guided more than 15 M.Phil research scholars. She has published various papers in reputed journals at national and international level and presented papers in national and international conferences. She is the co-ordinator of value education of the college.

Dr. Sheila Yesudas has been working in our department for the past 12.5 years. Previously she worked in NMCC Marthandan for 2 years. She is the coordinator of the Grievance Cell.
Assistant Professor Assistant Professor Dr.J.Mahil Kamalam

J.Mahil Kamalam has an experience of 22 years and has been the Head of the Department since 2014 June. She also possesses school experience for two and a half years. She has been the N.S.S Programme Officer for ten and a Half Years. During her tenure she has been awarded the "Best N.S.S Programme Officer " from the State of Tamil Nadu and also the "Best N.S.S Programme Officer" and "Best N.S.S Unit " award from the Manonmaniam Sundaranar University. She has served as Red Ribbon Programme Officer for 9 years and is serving as Secretary of the Positive Response Club for the past 10 years. She has served in the Consumer Club too. She has attended the Orientation Programme and Refresher Course for N.S.S from the Avanashilingom University. She has presented a number of papers in International, National and State Conferences. She is responsible for the International Conference to be held on 6th January 2015. She has served as Resource Person in N.S.S, Women′s Day and in Commerce. She has guided more than twenty five MPhil candidates.

Dr.I.R.Sheela has been working in our department for the past 12.5 years. Previously she worked in Holy cross college in Nagercoil for 2.3 years. She is the coordinator of Anti-Eve teasing cell and serving as a member of many committees.

Mrs.Shahila Kumari is a Part Time Lawyer in the Department of Commerce . She is an ethical committee member of Kanyakumari Govt. Medical College, Nagercoil and a member of District Consumer Dispute Redressal Forum, Kanyakuumari District. She is the administrator of Pravin Skin & Cosmetic Centre , Nagercoil . She is actively involved in conducting social awareness programmes for College and School students ,Rotary Club Members ,IMA Doctors ,Public and Socially Stigmatized persons like HIV affected orphans and PLHA on Legal ,Consumer, Domestic violence , Women's Rights Dowry Harassment and Disease modification activities .She is the Charter President of Rotary Club of Golden Flowers, Nagercoil.

2019 Association

Activities of the academic year 2018-2019
          By the grace of Lord Almighty the academic activities of our department began with the inaugural function on 13th July 2018. Mr K.B. Nandakumar, Chief Manager, Indian Bank, Nagercoil branch was the chief guest. In order to enrich the students, awareness programme on ACS and postal service were organised.
         With the collaboration of ICFACT and Tamil Nadu Skill Development Corporation, our department was very privileged to conduct a one month employability skill training in Banking Financial Services and Insurance from 13-08-2018 to 20-09-2018. 36 out gone students were benefited by this programme.
         We celebrated the World Entrepreneurship Day on 30-08-2018 to encourage the students to earn while they learn. Mrs. Renisha Winston, Proprietors i-manager was the chief guest. A four days trip to Bangalore and Hyderabad opened up new enjoyment to 50 students which is worthy to be remembered.
         Our department conducted a National Seminar on “Emerging new trends in Financial Markets” on 05-03-2019. Dr. Rajesh and Dr. Priya from Kerala were the resources persons. Many students participated in various competitions conducted by different institutions and won prizes. A seminar on “Budget” was conducted on 07-02-2019. Mr. S. Neela Kandan, the practicing company secretary was the speaker.
